It wasn’t flawless, but it was defining. Georgia Tech battled through adversity Saturday and came away with a gritty win over Wake Forest, improving to 5-0 for the first time since 2014. Brent Key’s team is showing its identity each week: tough, resilient, and fully bought in.
The first half was sluggish — just three points on the board — but the Yellow Jackets didn’t blink. Quarterback Haynes King once again put the team on his shoulders, delivering 349 total yards and three touchdowns. His dual-threat ability sparked an offense that found its rhythm when it mattered most.
Eric Rivers emerged with his best game in Atlanta, hauling in eight catches for 77 yards and a touchdown. Kicker Aidan Birr continued his steady season, drilling all three of his attempts, including the game-tying kick with two seconds left.
Defensively, Georgia Tech made the big plays when it counted. Ahmari Harvey was disruptive with five tackles and two tackles for loss, and Amontrae Bradford continues to rise as a force in the front seven. The final dagger came from Clayton Powell Lee, whose interception on the two-point try sealed the victory and set off a celebration at Bobby Dodd.
Wake Forest found explosive plays — including 119 yards and two scores from Demond Claiborne — but Tech held firm when the game was on the line. The Jackets didn’t allow a passing touchdown and adjusted effectively after the early chunk plays.
Yes, the offense is still looking for a complete four-quarter performance, and turnovers remain an area to clean up. But Georgia Tech showed once again that when the moment is biggest, this team finds a way.
Now, heading into a bye week, the Jackets are unbeaten, confident, and very much in the conversation as one of the ACC’s toughest outs.
