The RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl is an annual bowl game played in Boca Raton, Florida. We we're in Boca Raton to see Liberty and Toledo met each other in this game on December 20, 2022. Toledo was able to defeat Liberty 21-19 in this game. Let’s take a closer look at what happened in this game.
To start the game, Liberty received the ball and they punted at the end of their drive. On Toledo’s first drive of the game, they tried to extend their drive of a 4th & 8 but they were stopped and turned the ball over on downs. On their next possession, Liberty was able to go 53 yards in 5 plays to score the first points of the game. Shedro Louis rushed for a 9 yard touchdown to give the Flames the early 7-0 lead. The Rockets punted on their next possession. The first quarter came to a close in the middle of a Liberty drive.
The second quarter began with a Liberty punt. Toledo was then able to score their first points of the game as kicker Thomas Cluckey made a 41 yard field goal to make the score 3-7. Liberty and Toledo's next two possessions ended in punts. The half ended as Liberty kneeled to run the clock out. Liberty was winning 7-3 at halftime.
Toledo received the ball to start the third quarter, and they marched 75 yards in 13 plays to score a touchdown. Dequan Finn completed a 4 yard pass to Lenny Kuhl to put the Rockets up 10-7. On Liberty’s first possession of the second half Toledo’s Nate Givhan forced a fumble that was recovered by Toledo’s Jamal Hines. Toledo was able to score a 29 yard field goal after the turnover to put them up 13-7. Liberty punted on their next drive, but the punt was muffed and Liberty’s Treon Sibley recovered the fumble. Liberty was not able to capitalize on the turnover as they missed a field goal. The third quarter ended in the middle of Toledo’s next drive.
Toledo finished their drive with a 1 yard rushing touchdown from Dequan Finn, and they went for the two-point conversion and they were successful. The Rockets were now winning 21-7 Liberty responded to Toledo’s touchdown with one of their own as they drove 69 yards in 7 plays. Kaidon Salter found Treon Sibley for 29 yards and the touchdown to make the game 13-21 (PAT was missed). Liberty needed to get the ball back to stay in the game, and they did just this as they forced Toledo to punt on their next drive. On Liberty’s next drive CJ Daniels completed a pass to Bentley Hanshaw for 67 yards and a touchdown, but the Flames had to go for two and they were unsuccessful. Toledo was then able to run the clock out and end the game. Toledo defeated Liberty 21-19.
Liberty played a solid game, but they missed some crucial opportunities that ultimately decided the game. They still finished with a very good record and should be proud of themselves for the season they had.
Toledo played a good game and they were able to win the Boca Raton Bowl. Offensive MVP Dequan Finn played a very good game as he had two total touchdowns and over 150 total yards. Defensive MVP Nate Givhan had a great game as well as he had a sack and a forced fumble. Toledo got a great win to finish their season strong.
