Going into week two there’s a select few games you should have your eye on. Alabama and Texas haven’t faced off since 2010, USC and Stanford are both coming off games where they pommeled their opponents, Kentucky’s explosive offense marches into the swamp of Gainesville tonight to battle the Gators while Baylor goes down to Utah to face BYU. Here is a closer look at today’s game lineup.
Alabama @ Texas
Unranked Texas is set to take Alabama on in Austin at 12:00 PM EST. After stunning performances from both teams last week, top ranked Alabama is looking to continue their domination, while the Longhorns have their eyes set on a massive upset. The two programs haven’t seen each other on the field since the BCS National Championship game on January 7, 2010, where Alabama won the title with a final of 37-21. However, Texas wants to turn the tides on the Tide tonight, and give their home supporters something to brag about.
USC @ Stanford
At 7:30 PM EST Stanford will host 10th ranked USC. After both programs won big last week, they’re looking to extend their respective win columns. A win for Stanford tonight would be huge for their season, as they’re entering this game unranked. Behind center for both teams tonight are valued 2023 NFL draft prospects, as Oklahoma transfer Caleb Williams is looking to lead the Trojans to a projected win, while Stanford QB Tanner Mckee is ready to dice up the Trojan defense from the pocket. A win for either team tonight would be a massive shove of momentum in the right direction.
Kentucky @ Florida
The 20th ranked Wildcats will enter the swamp tonight to take on 12th ranked Florida at 7:00 PM EST. After a close win over Utah last week, Florida looks to defend their home turf and win column in Gainesville, while Kentucky is playing to steal a game in an upset. Kentucky’s powerful offense is hoping to outplay the recently lacking Gator defensive front. Quarterback play will be almost as good as it gets tonight, as both programs have great dual-threats in their backfields. All in all, we’re set for a great, old fashioned, SEC bout.
Baylor @ BYU
Tonight , the main matchup of ranked teams will feature the No. 9 Baylor Bears and the No. 21 BYU Cougars. The No. 9 Baylor Bears are the first top 10 team to play in Provo since No. 10 Wisconsin visited in 2017. Baylor will meet BYU at 10:15 p.m. ET on Saturday at LaVell Edwards Stadium. Both teams have won opening games; Baylor defeated Albany 69-10 in Week 1 while BYU (1-0) played impressively. The No. 21 Cougars defeated USF 50-21 after scoring 38 straight points without being answered. Given that BYU is expected to join the Big 12 Conference next season, this game could serve as a preview of the future of the conference.
The second week of the 2022 CFB season is set to be a great one, especially with these teams going at it today.
