The Vanderbilt Commodores continued their remarkable 2025 season with a 31-24 win over No. 10 LSU Saturday night in Nashville. It was a milestone victory for the program — Vanderbilt’s first win over LSU since 1990 — and it pushed the Commodores to 6-1 on the year, marking their best start since 1950.
This was no Cinderella story, either. Vanderbilt entered the game as a 1.5-point favorite and played like a team that fully expected to win. From the opening drive, the Commodores controlled the tempo, establishing the run and keeping LSU’s explosive offense off the field.
Vanderbilt’s defense set the tone early, forcing a key turnover that led to the game’s first touchdown. The Commodores held LSU’s offense in check for much of the night, applying steady pressure and limiting big plays. Each time the Tigers looked to swing momentum, Vanderbilt responded with poise and physicality.
Offensively, the Commodores relied on a balanced attack, mixing short passes and a strong rushing game to keep LSU’s defense guessing. The defense sealed the victory forcing 2 punts in the final minutes, igniting a celebration inside FirstBank Stadium as Vanderbilt fans witnessed a piece of program history.
With bowl eligibility already secured and growing momentum in the SEC, Vanderbilt is turning heads across college football. The Commodores will look to keep their historic run going next week when they they host number 16 ranked Missouri.
