MACtion Recap : Week 1

Bowling Green State University finished week one 1-0 with a 41-17 win over The Fordham Rams. Justin Pegues returned the opening kickoff for 100 yards to take the lead over The Rams and never looked back. The BGSU Falcons are looking to be a strong force in the MAC. 


The Buffalo Bulls also penciled themselves into the win column this week with a win over The Lafayette Leopards, 30-13 completely shutting out the Leopards in the first half. The bulls managed to end the game with 403 yards of all purpose yards


The Central Michigan Chippewas steamrolled right through the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils to finish the game with a score of 66-10. The 6ft 4in junior Joe Labs had an amazing game passing for 342 yards and 3 touchdowns, he completed 4 passes to his favorite target Senior Solomon Davis who finished the game with 4 receptions, 109 yards and 2 touchdowns.


The Eastern Michigan Eagles defeated the University of Massachusetts in the McGuirk Alumni Stadium 28-14, No. 15 Cole Snyder led the Eagles to their victory finishing the game with 241 yards and 1 touchdown while completing 17 of his 29 passes.  


The Northern Illinois Huskies took on and defeated the Western Illinois Bulldogs 54-15 with  an impressive and dominant win for The Huskies. Ethan Hampton was on fire lighting up the bulldogs for over 320 yards and 5 touchdowns all while completing 90% of his targets. Week one was a great success for the Huskies and they will be looking to make their mark in South Bend this upcoming Saturday.


The Toledo Rockets are no strangers to the MAC and on Thursday night they proved to be ready and eager for the 24-25 season, with an impressive win over the Duquesne Dukes 49-10. Jerjuan Newton went home happy after finishing the game with 5 receptions for 98 yards and converting 1 touchdown that came in the first quarter. The Rockets look ahead to week two opponent, Umass.


Ball State has yet to start their season, they will kick off against the Missouri State Bears at 2pm this Saturday in Missouri.


The Akron Zips made their debut in The Shoe against Ryan Day and the No. 2 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, it’s safe to say almost every Ohioan watched this game at one point or another although the game did not have the outcome the Zips intended to end with, they fell to The Buckeyes 52-6. They look to redeem themselves against Rutgers this Saturday at noon.


The Kent State Golden Flashes traveled to Acrisure Stadium to take on The Pittsburgh Panthers, they fought to hang on but Pitts offense led by Eli Holstein was too much to handle. Holstein finished with an impressive 3 Touchdown and 336 yard game.

The Miami of Ohio Redhawks suffered a close loss to Northwestern 13-6, although the Redhawks lost senior Brett Gabbert strung together 227 yards with 105 of those going to fellow senior Cade McDonald. The Redhawks will host the Cincinnati Bearcats for an inter-state matchup in hopes to even out their record. 


The Ohio Bobcats battled hard but were unable to defeat The Syracuse Orange and their new starting Quarterback and former Ohio State Buckeye Kyle McCord, he finished the game just shy of 354 yards and converted 4 touchdowns. The Bobcats senior Running Back Anthony Tyus III had a strong performance just surpassing 203 yards on 16 carries and taking 2 to the crib. The final score was 38-22


Last but not least The Western Michigan Broncos traveled to the Camp Randall Stadium and fell to the Wisconsin Badgers 28-14. The Broncos struggled to move the ball down the field, Jalen Buckley had both touchdowns and carried the ball 16 times while gaining 64 yards. The Broncos will travel to The Shoe to face the No. 2 ranked Buckeyes.
