MIAMI, FL — On Saturday, the Miami Hurricanes continued their undefeated season with a dominant 52-23 victory over the Pittsburgh Panthers. Miami controlled the game from start to finish, but the biggest story was just how unstoppable wide receiver Malachi Toney has become.
Toney went absolutely off against the Panthers’ secondary, totaling 16 receptions for 194 receiving yards and three touchdowns. No matter what Pittsburgh’s defense tried, it couldn’t stop him. Toney seemed to be everywhere, making clutch catch after clutch catch throughout the game.
His 16 receptions set a new single-game record for the Hurricanes, breaking his own record in the process. Toney is now already third in Miami history in career receptions, and he’s only halfway through his sophomore season at The U.
At this rate, Toney could end up breaking just about every receiving record in Hurricanes history. His production has been incredible, and he continues to make a strong case as one of the best players in college football.
After this performance, my Heisman Trophy winner is either Darian Mensah or Malachi Toney. Can these two keep up this incredible pace for the rest of the season? If they do, Miami could have a serious Heisman Trophy winner on its hands.
