The Kennesaw State Owls returned to action this weekend looking to carry momentum from their first win of the season. After dropping their first two games, the Owls steadied themselves with a 27–13 victory over Merrimack at Fifth Third Stadium — the first win for new head coach Jerry Mack.
QB Amari Odom showed poise and efficiency, completing 12 of 14 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown while adding a rushing score. Wideout Gabriel Benyard emerged as a reliable target, hauling in Odom’s lone TD pass to spark a key third-quarter surge. Odom will need to keep progressing, spreading the ball around while avoiding mistakes. This week presents another test as Kennesaw State continues to transition to the FBS level. Odom will need to keep progressing, spreading the ball around while avoiding mistakes.
The defense was the story: the Owls tied a program record with 14 tackles for loss and notched four sacks, completely disrupting Merrimack’s offensive rhythm. The Owls must build on last week’s confidence and carry that defensive intensity forward. Physicality Up Front: If the defensive front can replicate last week’s backfield pressure, KSU has a strong chance to stay competitive.
