A Game That Defied Expectations
In Boulder, the Colorado Buffaloes secured a dominant 31–7 victory over the Delaware Blue Hens. The story wasn’t just the outcome—it was how third-string quarterback Ryan Staub completely flipped the narrative.
Quarterback Carousel & Turning Point
The game began with Kaidon Salter delivering a solid start. He led two scoring drives—you read that right, two—including a rushing touchdown and nearly flawless passing. Julian "JuJu" Lewis, the heralded freshman, saw limited success in his brief stint. Then came the surprise: Staub entered the game with just 45 seconds remaining in the first half.
Staub’s Spark: The First TD
Staub quickly showed poise. After two initial incompletions, he connected with Joseph Williams on a 31-yard pass and quickly found DeKalon Taylor for a 21-yard touchdown with just nine seconds left in the half—giving Colorado a crucial 17–7 lead heading into the locker room.
Opening the Second Half with a Bang
Colorado struck quickly after the break. On just the third play of the half, Staub launched a massive 71-yard touchdown pass to Sincere Brown, putting the game firmly out of reach at 24–7.
What Does Colorado Think?
Staub, reflecting on his unexpected entry and performance, said:
“I was just hoping for an opportunity… On Friday, I got the call… I was just waiting. Didn’t know it would be a two-minute drill, and the rest is history.”
Coach Deion Sanders praised Staub’s composure:
“Staub, don't trip… He’s just unflappable, man.”
He added: “I’m just so darn proud of that guy… He never jumped into the portal… he’s just a great human being.
Staub’s rise from relative obscurity to game-changer in one afternoon highlights the unpredictability and excitement of college football. His performance gives Colorado both a win and a compelling storyline as they advance this season.
