Week 1 of the college football season was fun, but there were a lot of blowouts! Week 2 of the young season is upon us, and we have some great marquee matchups, as well as some potential upsets to watch for.
Kicking off the weekend on Friday night, the Missouri Tigers will head to Kansas to play the Jayhawks in a cross-town rivalry. The Tigers are coming off a dominant win in a game where transfer quarterback Austin Simmons only let the ball hit the ground two times while throwing for 250 yards and four touchdowns. The Tigers are 5.5-point favorites on the road, and I believe they will cover and win this game to start their season 2-0.
Kicking off the Saturday slate is the No. 11-ranked Oklahoma Sooners heading to Ann Arbor to take on the Michigan Wolverines, who just came off maybe one of the most controversial wins of all time against Western Michigan last week. In a game where they added one second back on the clock and nobody knows how, Michigan was able to complete a Hail Mary and win the game. Despite this and a very talented Oklahoma team coming into town, the spread is only Oklahoma -5.5. Most people have the Sooners making the playoffs, so this has the potential to be a huge game for both teams this early into the season.
We have a massive game for the G6 playoff spot as the Memphis Tigers travel to Idaho to take on the Boise State Broncos. Memphis is 2-0, with a key win coming in Week 0 when they beat UNLV. The Broncos, on the other hand, are 0-1, but this loss came to the No. 2-ranked team in the country at the time, the Oregon Ducks, where they only lost by a touchdown. The Broncos had the Ducks on the ropes in Eugene for most of the day until the Ducks were able to pull away. Whoever wins this game puts themselves in prime position for the G6 playoff spot.
Ending the night on Saturday, we have the ABC primetime game of the week, where the Ohio State Buckeyes will travel to Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns in a top-five ranked matchup. This is a rematch from their matchup last year, where the Buckeyes took the win in Columbus, 14-7, with both QBs making their first-ever start. Texas is a 1.5-point favorite in this matchup, and that is definitely because they are the home team. This is a huge matchup, as both of these teams do not have easy schedules this season. I cannot wait to watch this matchup, as I have both teams making the playoff this year!
