This weekend, the Dan Mullen era officially begins in fabulous Las Vegas! The Rebels are set to kick off their 2025 season against the Idaho State Bengals, opening as 26.5-point favorites in what could be a statement game to start a new chapter. Expectations are high for the Rebels this season, with offensive mastermind Dan Mullen now at the helm. His track record for building explosive offenses has fans and analysts alike excited about what’s possible in this new era for UNLV football.

With kickoff just days away, Dan Mullen has yet to name a starting quarterback for UNLV’s season opener. Instead, he’s opting for a two-quarterback approach this Saturday against Idaho State, featuring Michigan transfer Alex Orji and Virginia transfer Anthony Colandrea. Colandrea enters as the more polished passer, having thrown for 4,083 yards and 26 touchdowns during his time at Virginia. His experience and ability to command the passing game give him a clear edge through the air. Orji, however, brings a different dimension. Known for his athleticism, he’s a true dual-threat with 400 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns, despite limited action and only 48 career pass attempts. Mullen’s choice to utilize both QBs reflects his offensive creativity and willingness to adapt based on matchups. Saturday’s game will serve as the first glimpse into how he plans to deploy these two distinct talents in his system.
