Virginia Tech secured a 31-14 victory over Marshall on Saturday, September 7, 2024, in their home opener in Lane Stadium. Running back Bhayshul Tuten led the way with 120 rushing yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Kyron Drones contributed both a passing and rushing touchdown. After a stalemate early on in the game, Jaylin Lane broke things open with an electric 58 yard punt return touchdown late in the first quarter to wake up the home crowd.

Leading 10-7 at halftime, the Hokies surged in the second half, scoring three consecutive touchdowns to strengthen their lead from the Thundering Herd. Marshall struggled offensively, managing only 115 passing yards as Virginia Tech’s defense controlled the game through the air, adding an interception to the box score from cornerback Mansoor Delane.

The Hokie’s are back on the road next week as they take on Old Dominion at S.B. Ballard Stadium in Norfolk, Virginia. Virginia Tech is looking to capitalize on their momentum built after a dominant victory over Marshall this past weekend and control themselves as a top team in Virginia during this in-state matchup.
