Washington pulled off an impressive comeback to defeat Maryland 24–20, overcoming a 20-point deficit in the late stages of the contest. The Huskies were blanked through the first half and into the third quarter, while Maryland progressively built its lead behind a steady ground game and efficient offense.
But Washington turned the tide in the fourth quarter, scoring on four consecutive possessions while holding Maryland scoreless. Quarterback Demond Williams Jr. played an important role, connecting on touchdown passes to Denzel Boston and Dezmen Roebuck, before Jonah Coleman capped the rally with a 1-yard touchdown run with 3:21 left. Washington’s final drives totaled 298 yards on 45 plays, while Maryland’s offense performed poorly, just 52 yards on their final four possessions.
The victory was a statement for Washington: not only did they snatch their first Big Ten road win since joining the Big 10. For Maryland, the loss stings, a dominant first half wasted, and if they won they would have been undefeated holding a 5-0 record.
